Yellow Alert: Mumbai and Thane Brace for Heavy Rains, Thunderstorms

Mumbai, 24th June 2024: The Regional Meteorological Department has issued alerts for various districts in Maharashtra due to anticipated weather conditions over the next five days. Thane and Mumbai have been placed under a yellow warning alert, with expectations of thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour.

An orange alert has been issued for Raigad and Ratnagiri, where heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging from 64.65 to 115.55 mm is predicted. Similarly, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, and Satara are also under an orange alert due to similar weather forecasts.

Areas such as Nasik, Jalgaon, Amravati, and Bhandara have been placed under a yellow alert, with expectations of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour.

Recent heavy rains in parts of Thane have already prompted responses from the Fire Brigade Department to numerous incidents involving tree falls, hoarding collapses, wall collapses, and fires. Notably, six children were injured on Friday due to the collapse of a shed at a football ground in Thane.

The Meteorological Department advises residents across Maharashtra to exercise caution in light of the severe weather conditions expected in the coming days. The potential for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, and Satara raises concerns about disruptions and safety risks.

Local authorities are on heightened alert and preparing for emergency responses as needed. The public is urged to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary safety measures to mitigate risks.
