Shiv Sena (UBT) Triumphs in Mumbai Teacher’s Constituency Ahead of Assembly Elections

Mumbai, 2nd July 2024: Leading up to the Maharashtra assembly elections, Shiv Sena (UBT) has received a significant boost. In the recently concluded Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) polls, the party secured victories in both the Mumbai Graduates and Mumbai Teachers constituencies.

Anil Parab of Shiv Sena (UBT) emerged victorious from the Mumbai Graduates constituency, defeating BJP’s Kiran Shelar with 44,784 votes against Shelar’s 18,772 votes. Out of the total 64,222 valid votes cast, Parab comfortably exceeded the winning quota of 32,112 votes.

In the Mumbai Teachers constituency, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s JM Abhyankar secured the seat with 4,083 votes out of 11,598 valid votes. Meanwhile, BJP’s Niranjan Davkhare won the Konkan Graduate seat, defeating Congress’ Ramesh Keer by a substantial margin. Davkhare garnered 1,00,719 votes compared to Keer’s 28,585 votes. The Konkan constituency includes districts such as Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg.

In Nashik Teachers constituency, Kishor Darade of Shiv Sena, led by Eknath Shinde, emerged victorious by defeating independent MLA Vivek Kolhe, securing the majority out of 63,151 valid votes.

Voting for these seats took place on June 26, with results announced on July 1. Looking ahead, the BJP has nominated five candidates for the upcoming biennial elections, including Pankaja Munde, Yogesh Tilekar, Parinay Phuke, Amit Gorkhe, and Sadabhau Khot.

Pankaja Munde, who lost the Lok Sabha polls in Beed to NCP’s Bajrang Sonawane, has been nominated by the BJP. The Congress has renominated Pradnya Rajeev Satav. Additionally, five more MLC seats will be contested on July 12 through a secret ballot among MLAs.

The term of 11 MLCs, which ends on July 27, coincides just months before the Maharashtra assembly elections scheduled for October. Currently, the Ajit Pawar-led NCP holds 41 MLAs, followed by Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena with 40, and BJP with 103. The Congress has 37 MLAs, while Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP) have 13 and 15 MLAs respectively.
