Illegal Cattle Transportation: Case Lodged Against Six Individuals in Thane

Thane, 8th June 2024: In Thane, a case has been lodged against six individuals for allegedly engaging in the illegal transportation of cattle, as reported by the police on Saturday.

According to an official from the Mahatma Phule Chowk (MFC) police station, two tempos carrying buffaloes were intercepted in Kalyan on Friday morning. The animals were found cramped in inhumane conditions during the interception.

The drivers of both tempos lacked permits for transporting cattle and were unable to provide essential medical certificates for the animals, the official stated.

An FIR has been filed under pertinent sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1976, against the six individuals involved, including the drivers, vehicle owners, and those who purchased the cattle, as per the official’s statement.

The accused hail from Mumbai, Ahmednagar, and Uttar Pradesh, the official mentioned, adding that further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
