Ceiling Collapse in ‘Dangerous’ Thane Building Raises Safety Concerns

Thane, 24th June 2024: In Thane city, Maharashtra, on Monday morning, a portion of the ceiling plaster collapsed in a four-storey building classified as ‘dangerous’, according to civic officials.

The incident occurred at Kisan Nagar in Wagle Estate, with no reported injuries, officials confirmed.

Yasin Tadvi, head of Thane Municipal Corporation’s disaster management cell, reported that the ceiling plaster of the building’s second-floor gallery collapsed around 7 am. Upon receiving the alert, local fire personnel and the regional disaster management cell promptly arrived at the scene to clear the debris.

The building, which accommodates 56 tenements and is approximately 45 years old, had been marked as ‘dangerous’ following an inspection. Residents were instructed to undertake repairs while remaining in the premises, despite cracks in some columns, Tadvi added.
