Alleged Temple Desecration in Thane Sparks Police Probe

Thane, 1st July 2024: In Thane, police have taken action following an alleged desecration of a temple by members of a minority community, as reported by an official on Sunday.

A complaint lodged by a woman led to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) on Saturday under section 295 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with destroying or defiling places of worship with intent to insult religious sentiments, among other relevant provisions.

According to the official, the incident purportedly took place on June 23 in the Hazuri area of the city. The complaint alleges that a man from the minority community harassed a woman. On the day in question, while the woman was at the temple with her relatives, a group of around 150 individuals reportedly entered the premises wearing footwear, causing disturbance.

In response to the incident, activists from the Sakal Hindu Samaj presented a memorandum to the police commissioner on Saturday, urging stringent action against those implicated in the incident.
